Domestic Violence Awareness
Alpha Chi Omega’s are dedicated to serving the Tallahassee community through a variety of altruistic passions; we proudly completed 2,380 service hours through FSU’s ServScript. Our chapter-wide focus, and our national philanthropy, Domestic Violence Awareness is one of the many aspects of our sisterhood that bind us together heart to heart by sharing a passion for an issue affecting all women across the nation. Raising awareness about domestic violence and providing support for victims is imperative for our sisters. Our collegiate and alumnae sisters seek altruistic opportunities to serve in our communities; we partner with local shelters and organizations that aid survivors of domestic violence. This mission connected our chapter to the Tallahassee Refuge House. The Refuge House is a safe space that offers protection and counseling to women and children that are experiencing domestic violence; they assist survivors and families in starting safer, stronger lives. Our relationship allows us to embrace this line of our Symphony: “to shed the light of love and friendship round me”. We appreciate the impact of our service, and we are thankful to serve the Tallahassee community.
Philanthropy Events
As a chapter, Alpha Chi holds two annual, week-long events with a focus on Domestic Violence Awareness (DVA) in the fall and spring semesters. In the fall, the week’s events take place during Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October. Events include “Donuts for DVA”, our classic dessert night at the chapter facility, tabling on campus to raise awareness, and our Annual DVA Gala at Doak Campbell Stadium. The week-long fundraising for and highlighting of Refuge House culminates in our DVA Gala providing an avenue to share our commitment and devotion to our national philanthropy to our parents and families, alumnae and our sisters.
Our spring events include Healthy Relationships Week (HRW), Sexual Assault Awareness and Denim Day recognition. During HRW members raise awareness about “What is Healthy Love…” for the FSU community by tabling at Florida State’s Market Wednesday; passing out carnations on campus with DVA facts; and hosting our annual “Pizza Pie with Alpha Chi” event at the chapter house with proceeds donated to Refuge House.
Along with chapter events, our sisters volunteer at Refuge House events hosted by the shelter, donor recognition ceremonies, and their annual golf tournament. Not only do these events help bring light to our philanthropy, they allow us to share DVA with other members of our community through positive efforts. Annually, Beta Eta is proud to raise nearly $40,000 for the Refuge House, the Alpha Chi Omega Foundation, and Domestic Violence Awareness nationally.
A few words from our VP Philanthropy
“Alpha Chi Omega spreads awareness for domestic violence year round, both on Florida State’s campus and within the Tallahassee community. The topic of domestic violence awareness should not be intimidating nor should victims be silenced; however, it should be brought to more people’s attention. My committee and I hope to bridge this gap and make the topic easier to talk about by holding philanthropy events at the Alpha Chi Chapter Facility, tabling on Landis and at Market Wednesday, receiving training from specialists at the local Refuge House and working hands on with women and children, reminding them that they are not alone. I am so honored to be a part of such an amazing cause and to have a role allowing me to inspire others to fight for DVA alongside Alpha Chi’s.”

A Message from the Refuge House
“I would like to thank Alpha Chi Omega for their dedication and efforts to put an end to domestic and sexual violence and for supporting our organization. This group of active and passionate young women, along with their advisors and local alumnae, do so much for the Refuge House. I am so impressed with their willingness to not only support us monetarily but also through their volunteer activities. Great group of young ladies representing your organization!”
